Reduce Your Energy Bills

I hope you have browsed through our website and found out all about the benefits of insulating your home and at the same time reduce your energy costs. If not, I suggest that you do so because insulating your home is one of the most effective ways of actually reducing your energy costs. Each area you insulate, roof, walls and underfloor increases your energy bill savings. Here are some energy saving tips.

With the cost of electricity and gas expected to continuing spiraling out of sight there are many other areas where you can reduce the amount of energy you use thus reduce your energy costs. Have you thought about solar water heating? This can greatly reduce the cost of heating your water.

Did you know that most people have their water heated so much that they have to add great amounts of cold water to bring it down to a usable temperature. Have you thought about changing the thermostat to bring this down so not so much cold water is needed. I have seen some temperature settings that reach almost boiling point.

Have you changed your lamps for CFLs (compact fluorescent lamps). Let me show you how much can be saved. I changed 6, 60 watt incandescent globes for 6, 11 watt CFLs in my large farmhouse kitchen. I like light and spend a lot of time in my kitchen. I did a little calculation. My current cost for electricity is 31cents per kilowatt/hour. I averaged 4 hour lighting time a day for 250 days (this is allowing for when I am not there). The electricity cost for the 60 watt incandescent globes over this period was $111.60. The cost for the CFLs worked out at $20.46. Ha! You say, but CFL’s are a lot more expensive. Incandescent globes have an average lifespan of 750 – 1000hrs, CFL’s have an average lifespan of 6000 – 15000hrs. I will let you work out the maths.

Even greater savings will soon be made as LED lamps are starting to drop in price and are becoming brighter. They can have a lifespan of up to 50,000hrs.

Ever thought about doing your washing overnight or at weekends? You don’t save energy but you save on costs as you use the cheap rate tariff.

So as you can see there are many ways you can reduce your energy costs even further even when you have your house insulated with the most efficient type of insulation, Ausfoam 10 installed by SprayFoam Solutions.

The future cost of energy has recently expected to rise dramatically especially gas as this is tied to the world price. (what the heck are our politicians doing). Our “privatised” electricity companies are not far behind either. The only way to fight them is to make your house as energy efficient as possible and reduce your energy costs.
